Stay True to Yourself, and Don't Take Shit from Anyone

Your value system is everything. It is your foundation. Your beliefs govern your actions, which create your character, which in turn is what the world sees when it determines if it wants to do business with you. Is this person trustworthy? Do their friends say the same? Can I count on them to get something done? What experiences have they had that shaped the way they think. Is their motivation based in prosperity and generosity or fear and greed?

These are the questions that run through someone’s mind when they are determining if they want to do business with you. The way you behave over time, in all circumstances, is what shapes the world’s vision of you. Every day, people deal with others trying to manipulate them, tragedy striking, winning big, lulls in activity, struggle, joy, pain, love, and all the circumstances in between. How you deal with every one of those situations determines how the world sees you. You ARE your actions, and the things that determine how you act are your values.

Values: a person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life.

Some examples of values: A commitment to innovation. A focus on environmental sustainability. A belief that family comes first before anything else. Loyalty. Honesty. Positivity. Courage. You get the idea.

Know Yourself

Hustlers know who they are. They know without question what they are committed to, and they don’t care if someone questions them on it. They know how to operate in a way that is consistent with their beliefs and reflects positively in their network in order for them to get things done. They act with authority knowing that a strong set of core values is what drives them, and they don’t have to question why they are doing something. They feel confident in their actions because their values unwaveringly guide them. You want to see someone who hustles and doesn’t give a shit what people say? Check out this chick

If you are going to hustle anything, you need to have a strong set of core values to govern how you operate. People need to know how you operate and you must never waiver from your core beliefs to get something done.

Embrace Differences

Hustlers are not the same as other people, and they embrace the differences with others as a way to gain strength in perspective. Imagine what you could accomplish if you worked toward a common goal, with a group of people who shared a strong set of core values with you, and who possessed 100 different skill sets than you. Magic would happen. Hustlers not only embrace differences, but they actively seek them out. Differences and diversity can bring a whole wealth of perspective to your life. Healthy debates, strategic insight, access to resources, creative ideas, and connections to unexpectedly helpful people.

Hustlers also make it a point to understand differences that are causing friction in relationships. They want to know why they don’t get along with someone and look back at themselves as the possible problem. They see this as an opportunity to get better, to grow as a person, and as an opportunity for deeper understanding of themselves and how to operate in their network more efficiently.

Haters

Some people have a hard time if others are doing things differently and are finding success, especially if they are in the same industry or same workspace. As a result they will try to control the differences, align people against the differences, manipulate situations, and down play any success attributed to the person doing things differently. They will try to force others into their way of thinking instead of seeing the chance to learn a new perspective. Then, if they are unable to selfishly control the situation, they then start to openly hate it. It’s sad but it’s human nature.

People fear what they don’t understand and hate what they can’t conquer. — Andrew Smith

If you found yourself in this situation, then congratulations, you now have haters (Hi Haters). If someone tries to control your behavior and judges you, remember that they don’t know what you know. They are scared of differences and are operating in fear and misunderstanding. Don’t try to control them back, show them how to operate. Don’t preach to them why they are wrong. Don’t spend an ounce of energy arguing or trying to align them to your way of thinking. Keep showing them success by being YOU and they will either come around or wallow in hate.

Be You

That’s what it all comes down to. Live your life in line with your core values and you’ll be more confident, decisive, powerful, and relaxed. You won’t take shit from anyone. You’ll trust yourself more, and people will trust you more because they know what to expect, every time, consistently, without fail. Make the commitment to your core beliefs, and in every situation ask yourself: “Does this line up with my core values?” Over time you will build a framework for life that will allow you to hustle anything you want.
